Bird photos taken at a California Hawking Club meeting held at Topaz Lake swept all honors in the Carson Valley Photo Club's monthly competition.

Merry Muller coped first with a stunning close-up of a snow owl. She titled her entry "Ms. Blanca," which is the name given the owl by the hawking club.

Pat Colon's photo of a Swainson's hawk took the red ribbon.

"Barn Owl" won third place and was shot by Ralph Phillips.

The club's monthly contest theme - birds and agriculture - was fitting for their guest speaker, bird and nature photographer Steve Ting, who shared photos and tips on how he took them.

The club welcomes new members - amateurs to professionals. It meets the second Tuesday each month at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville. Information, club president Doug Dill, 783-4388.
