Sinfonia concert opens spring in Minden

The Carson Valley Sinfonia will present its Spring Concert 2010 4 p.m. March 21, in Minden's CVIC Hall. The program will include "Sarabande" by Carl Bohm, "Scottish Air and Reel", by Susan Brown, "Highlights from The Sound Of Music" arranged by Bruce Chase and feature first performances of three new scores: "Two Traditional Folk Songs," arranged by Danny Yale, and Conductor, John O'Neill's, "A Mambo for Mike" and his transcription of the first movement of Beethoven's "Symphony No. 1." There is no admission charge.

Featured soloist will by Michelle Forman, daughter of Dr. Christopher and Susan Forman. Forman is concertmaster of the Sinfonia and accompanied by Denise Aiazzi, will perform "Allegro" by G. H. Fiocco. She is a home school senior, a championship swimmer and award winning 4H member in addition to being a musician.

Another highlight of the afternoon will be several medleys played by Danny Yale and his long time associate, Michael O'Neill accompanied by Dr. George Worth on the string bass.

Yale is the founder of the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra. A graduate of New York City's "High School of Music and Art," he went on to play for Fred Warring, Red Skelton, Ginger Rogers, Franck Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and Billy Rose and his "Diamond Horseshoe" Orchestra in New York City.

He was the founder and long-time director of the "Hyatt Regency Strings" in San Francisco. O'Neill became a member of that group while attending San Francisco State and later went on to share, for 10 years, the strolling violin gig with Danny at Reno's Silver Legacy.

The Carson Valley Sinfonia, sponsored by Friends of the Carson Valley Youth Orchestra and the Carson Valley Violin School, founded in 1992, boasts a membership ranging in age from 11 to older than 80. Membership is open to qualified musicians without charge.
