South Lake Tahoe's transit agency is looking for new leadership.

Last Friday the South Tahoe Area Transit Authority Board voted to eliminate the transit administrator position, previous held by John Andoh, and use the budget savings to hire a permanent executive director.

In an email, Andoh said he supported and advocated for the change.

The board also hired consulting firm Transit Resource Center to manage the daily operations of BlueGO in the interim.

"The transit agency has grown to the stage where it's a more an $5 million a year operation," said Spokesman Dennis Oliver. "We have more complex services for the visitors and the South Shore community and it needs professional, executive level management."

BlueGO is a service of the South Tahoe Area Transit Authority which consists of members representing South Shore government agencies, hotels and ski resorts.

Collectively, these partner agencies provide a coordinated transit system on the south shore of Lake Tahoe.

While a transit administrator handles the "nuts and bolts" of the operations of BlueGO, an executive director will be expected to plan long-term for the operation's success, Oliver said.

The agency is working on a time line to hire an executive director, Oliver said.
