Tuesday and Wednesday, the Tahoe Science Consortium will host the Fifth Biennial Lake Tahoe Basin Science Conference: Measuring the Success of Ecosystem Restoration in the Lake Tahoe Basin to discuss and assess the infusion of scientific information and results.

"This conference will bring together agency, academic, and stakeholder representatives, and will provide the opportunity for networking, education, and the exchange of new ideas and information," said consortium Executive Director Zach Hymanson, the organization in charge of coordinating the two-day event.

The conference will feature more than 100 presentations covering a variety of topic areas, including aquatic environments, invasive and native species, water quality in Lake Tahoe and surrounding streams, forest vegetation, soils and fire effects, erosion effects, effects of the Angora fire, watershed restoration, hazardous fuels, prescriptive burning and the impacts of global climate change in the Tahoe Basin, according to Jill Falman of the Tahoe Science Consortium.

Along with the discussion of overarching issues such as global climate change, scientists attending the event will share and analyze results from the 45 projects conducted over the past three years that have been funded by the Tahoe Science Consortium through grants obtained from the Federal Bureau of Land Management as authorized by the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act.

"This biennial science conference provides a forum where individuals involved in the science and management of the Lake Tahoe Basin can learn about and discuss the latest scientific findings and their significance," said Falman in a written statement.

The event will take place at the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences on the Sierra Nevada College campus in Incline Village, beginning at 8:30 a.m today.
