The Carson Valley Sinfonia presents its Spring Concert 2010 at 4 p.m. Sunday at the CVIC Hall in Minden. The free program includes "Sarabande" by Carl Bohm, "Scottish Air and Reel," by Susan Brown, highlights from "The Sound Of Music" arranged by Bruce Chase, the first performances of "Two Traditional Folk Songs," arranged by Danny Yale, and conductor John O'Neill's "A Mambo for Mike" and his transcription of the first movement of Beethoven's "Symphony No. 1."
Featured soloist is Carson Valley Sinfonia concertmaster Michelle Forman, who performs "Allegro" by G.H. Fiocco accompanied by Denise Aiazzi.
Forman is the daughter of Dr. Christopher and Susan Forman. She is a home-schooled senior, championship swimmer and 4-H'er.
Also on the program are medleys played by Danny Yale, Michael O'Neill and Dr. George Worth on the string bass. Yale is the founder of the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra.
Founded in 1992, the Carson Valley Sinfonia is sponsored by Friends of the Carson Valley Youth Orchestra and the Carson Valley Violin School. Members range in age from 11 to 80-plus, giving younger members the opportunity to benefit from the experience of professional musicians and teachers.
