Jump Rope for Heart event Wednesday at Meneley

Meneley Elementary's annual Jump Rope for Heart event will take place on Wednesday, March 24 at 1:45 p.m. in the commons. The event begins with a jump rope assembly featuring the school's own advanced jump rope demonstration team. The talented Meneley staff will also show off their fabulous skills for the entertainment of all.

A school-wide jump follows the assembly. All students will participate in individual and group jumping events. Students have been developing skills in their physical education classes with Mrs. Lucas and learning the importance of an active lifestyle in order to keep their own hearts healthy. Eating nutritious foods and living tobacco free have also been emphasized.

The American Heart Association sponsors schools with free educational materials and jump ropes. Students can earn money for the Heart Association by collecting donations. For information on volunteering during our event, or to donate to the heart association, contact Mrs. Lucas at 265-3154. 

Kindergarten registration

Registration for the 2010-11 school year will run from April 5-April 16 at all Douglas County elementary schools.

Registration materials are available at your neighborhood school or at www.dcsd.k12.nv.us. If you go online, click on "Parents" then on "Registration Materials" in the left hand column. Materials are available in English and Spanish.

In addition to the registration packet, parents must also provide an original birth certificate for their child, complete and up-to-date immunization records signed by a doctor or nurse, and a utility bill showing a street address as proof of residency in your neighborhood.

Nevada School Law requires that a child must be 5 years old by Sept. 30, 2010, to attend kindergarten during the 2010-11 school year. The Douglas County School District encourages parents to register their children as soon as possible, which can help prevent large kindergarten classes in the fall.

There are two elementary schools in the Gardnerville Ranchos: C.C. Meneley Elementary at 1446 Muir Drive, phone number 265-3154. Scarselli Elementary is located at 699 Long Valley Road. They can be reached at 265-2222.
