Swimming & Diving: Tigers sweep dual meets over Reed

The Douglas High swimming & diving teams continued its blazing start to the 2010 season Saturday as both the boys' and girls' teams cruised to dual meet wins over Reed at the Incline pool.


The Tigers won all but three events overall against the Raiders and captured 17 event victories in the overall meet, which included Incline and Sage Ridge.


Overall victors for the girls were Michelle Forman (200 IM, 2:19.41 and 100 breaststroke, 1:13.70), Haley VonSchottenstein (100 fly, 1:02.48 and 100 back, 1:03.75), Meagan Skilling (50 free, 26.99) and Hailey Desborough (diving, 140.05).


The Lady Tigers swept all three relays as well with Taylor Killion, VonSchottenstein, Forman and Skilling winning the 200 medley in 1:55.25, Killion, Sarah Koontz, Paula Sigala and Mary Smithen winning the 200 free in 1:55.13 and Forman, Skilling, Smithen and VonSchottenstein winning the 400 free in 3:58.86.


For the boys, Kyle Johnston (200 free, 1:57.93 and 100 back, 1:04.71), Eric VanBeuge (200 IM, 2:17.51 and 100 breaststroke, 1:13.91), Nolan Thew (diving, 171.95) and TJ Smithen (100 free, 1:01.20) all took overall wins in their respective events.


The relay teams of Daniel Palmer, Cameron Morefield, Kyle Jenkins and VanBeuge (200 medley, 1:51.30), Johnston, Jenkins, Smithen and VanBeuge (200 free, 1:42.19) and Jenkins, Smithen, Morefield and Johnston (400 free, 3:55.97) all took first place as well.


In the girls' dual, Mary Smithen led a near sweep of the 200 free with a time of 2:17.46, followed by Sigala and Anna Jackson with Taralyn Chitwood taking fifth.

Desborough led a sweep of diving, followed by Samantha Phillips and Achaia Sigel.


VonSchottenstein led a perfect sweep in the 100 back, followed by Mary Smithen, Henning and Sigala in order.


Killion was second in the 100 fly, followed by Jackson in fourth and Christina Henning in fifth and Yuchen Jin won the 100 free, followed by Koontz in third.


Killion was third in the 100 breasstroke, Skilling was third in the 500 free, Koontz was fourth in the 200 IM.


In the boys' dual, Johnston was followed by Smith in second in the 200 free.


Palmer was second in the 200 IM, Morefield and Jenkins went second and third in the 50 free, Morefield was second in the 500 free and Palmer and Devin Osband were second and third respectively in the 100 back.


Thew led a Tiger sweep in diving followed by Luke Isherwood and Conner McKeon.
