At 50 degrees in Genoa, it's warmer out right now than it will be all day on Wednesday and Thursday as a storm rolls in. This morning the National Weather Service issued a high wind warning that kicks off at 11 a.m. today with 20-40 mph winds and gusts of near 60 mph in the Valleys by early this afternoon. There's the potential for damaging downslope winds of up to 100 mph in the foothills of Carson and Washoe valleys.
There's the possibility that strong winds could close Highway 395 through Washoe Valley. If your commute takes you into the desert, expect lower visibility thanks to blowing dust. The winds may prompt power outages and damage to trees.
Driving the winds is a snow-moving and very strong cold front expected to arrive here on Tuesday. Blizzard conditions are forecast for the Tahoe Basin and Alpine County through the day on Tuesday. There's a possibility of snow in the Valley on Tuesday night running through Thursday. The weather service isn't anticipating much in the way of accumulation.
