EDITOR:
I am writing this letter for my son and myself, we want Sierra Crest Academy to stay open. My son Jonpaul Paz has always had problems in school with learning issues. When Jonpaul was in the second grade, his school teacher told me that Jonpaul had reached his learning potential, and that he could not learn any more. Obviously they were wrong. Jonpaul has been at Sierra Crest for three years now, from seventh grade to currently ninth grade. He has done especially well these last three years. He has been keeping his grades up and enjoys their P.E. program. He has been doing the Renaissance P.E. he has learned sword fighting, crossbow, and archery. He is so good at it that his teacher has told both of us that as long as Jonpaul keeps his grades up, he could very well get a fencing scholarship. The academy needs to stay open, not only for my son, but for everyone. Some kids like my son need a small school like this one because a lot of kids do better with more one-on-one education. Our kids' education should come first, and by letting the school close would be not only wrong, but it would be devastating to my son and other students that go there. I know in my heart that if the school were to close, that Jonpaul would get lost and fall through the cracks if he had to go to a different school. For his sake and the other students, I hope you decide to leave Sierra Crest alone and let them keep doing the excellent job they are already doing. My son deserves a chance at a good education and he is receiving that at Sierra Crest Academy. Please consider this and hopefully you will see how important it is to keep this school open for our kids.
