Even as warm as it is this morning there are road controls in a few places in the mountains, including Spooner Junction, where chains or snow tires are being required. Chains or four-wheel drive are being required over all three routes across the Sierra this morning and the Mount Rose Highway. There was a jackknifed truck on Interstate 80 at Donner Lake at around 5:30 a.m.
It's pretty windy out this morning, so be careful on the ride into work. Our peak gust from Monday was 63 mph in Sheridan Acres at 11:21 a.m. That was the top reported speed in Western Nevada without climbing a mountain. We are under the high wind warning until 5 p.m. There were some brownouts last night, so don't be surprised if the power goes out for part of today. Expect peak wind gusts of 60 mph before 10 a.m.
We had rain on the west side of the Valley much of the night, and the National Weather Service is calling for up to a fifth of an inch more today. Right around the commute time the snow level is expected to drop to the Valley floor, leaving up to 3 inches of snow on the ground, if conditions are right.
