Douglas boys' golf coach Brent Eddy hopes his team's performance Monday at the Thunder Canyon league tournament is a sign they are peaking at the right time.
With only one league tournament remaining (today at Arrowcreek), the Tigers turned in a team score of 411, taking second to Manogue (408) and finishing ahead of Galena (426), Fallon (429) and Carson (444) in order.
That puts the Tigers in a tie for third place with Galena in the season standings behind Manogue and Fallon. Douglas still needs a solid season finale to stay ahead of fifth-place Carson for the final spot at next week's Northern 4A Regional Tournament.
The Tigers were led Monday by their powerful 1-2 senior tandem of Greg Coleman and Thomas Wicker.
Coleman was the individual medalist, shooting a 73 and Wicker was second at 75.
"This was a great effort by Greg and Thomas," Eddy said. "The conditions were tough as there were wind gusts up to 50 mph.
"We are used to the wind and it does not affect our team because we play in it so much."
Erik Edwards turned in an 82 for the Tigers.
"This was a great day for Erik," Eddy said. "He has really stepped up and had some good rounds lately."
Jake Tessmann shot a 90, Sky Hackler came in at 91 and Cody Logan turned in a 94.
"Hopefully we are starting to peak at the right time as we are winding down the year," Eddy said.
Coleman also leads the Nevada Cup standings for the Sierra League individual championship heading into the final tournament.
The regional tournament is next Monday and Tuesday at Empire Ranch.
