A rip-snorting, side-winding rodeo will be held in Gardnerville on June 7th and 8th, according to "Bim" Koenig and Chris Gansberg. The rodeo will be held on the high school grounds and a string of real bucking horses will be featured. The promoters have had scouts out hunting horses with a reputation for delivering the goods. They have been successful in their mission and vaqueros will need to be good riders to keep from "pulling leather" or hitting the dust. And that's not all! A herd of bulls will be rounded up and the bull-throwing will be good, if not better. Spectators get more thrills out of cowboys riding wild steers or bulls, than most anything else. The rodeo will be a regular three-ring circus, without lions and tigers, but with thrills aplenty to make up for the lack of menagerie or zoo. Hold everything for this date and nervously await further announcement.

Alpine County, Calif., was the first county in the nation to complete its official 1960 decennial census enumeration. Mrs. Rosella M. Jackson, the county's census enumerator, by April 9 had tabulated all 362 of its inhabitants. She estimated she had driven about 200 miles to get the count. The official census shows a substantial increase in population over the census of 1950 when only 241 persons were counted.

Following complaints, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office has erected "no shooting" signs in the sand pit area of the Gardnerville Ranchos. Sgt. Lance Modispacher said some residents and school officials complained that people were using the sand pit area south of Tillman Lane for target practice, and although shooters may be the legal distance from residences, people felt endangered.
