Help in the big wind

EDITOR:

During the high wind storm on April 27, the tin roof over the front porch of the mobile home I rent in Kingslane began to tear apart from the screws that held it down.

Fearing that the pieces would fly through the air and injure someone on the ground or fly through a car windshield I tried to contact the owners but learned that they were out of town. Their handyman, whom I also called, was unavailable to come out.

I then called 911 as my last resort. The operator was not sure they could help and said that they would call me back.

Within a short time Sheriff's Deputy Jesse McKone arrived in his patrol car. He asked if I had any rope or duct tape and a ladder. I found some duct tape and a 2-foot step ladder. Deputy McKone, being over 6 foot tall, stood on the ladder and began taping the loose pieces down against the high winds, as I assisted from the ground.

I feel that Deputy McKone went beyond the call of duty, and deserves special recognition for what he did.
