When God describes Himself, He uses the title of Father, as we see in the most famous prayer of all time. Matthew 6:9, "In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name."
With that said, it is important to understand that God is the creator and source of all love. The Bible tells us that God is love. Therefore the unique and wonderful love of a mother finds its roots in the very heart of God. Our creator, created mothers to exhibit gentle, nurturing, and protective care for their children. From the moment of conception the child is completely dependant upon its mother for its sustenance, health, development, and very life. There simply is no greater human connection than mother and child.
Because God is love, if we seek to describe or identify love, we need only to look at the very character of God. His nature and heart was revealed to us by His Son Jesus Christ. Colossians 1:15 , "He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation." John 14:9, "Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, 'Show us the Father?'"
Jesus was the exact representation of the Father. When He acted, He reflected the will and nature of the Father. Jesus expressed the nurturing and protective desire of God for His people in Matthew 23:37, "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!"
In the day of old He spoke of His protection as well. Psalm 91:4, "He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler."
How blessed we are to experience the love of our mothers. Let's return that wonderful love as we celebrate Mother's Day. God bless.
