Past and present Carson Valley Active 20-30 Club members are gathering 6-9 p.m. May 14 at the JT Basque Bar & Dining Room for a happy hour, according to member Dylan Zigenis.

"We are trying to get the word out and have as many red vests there as possible," Dylan said. "We are hoping to get a few guys to volunteer to help with different events for Carson Valley Days."

For those of you who don't know, there is literally a handful of club members who put on the whole event.

Leah Walters is the second person to come to The Record-Courier wearing a crown so far this year. Leah was named Miss Southern Nevada Counties in the Miss Nevada Outstanding Teen pageant in Las Vegas in April.

The pageant is the sister organization to the Miss Nevada Pageant, and 16-year-old Douglas High student said she is a big fan of Gardnerville resident and Miss Nevada Christina Keegan.

Leah is in Students Taking on Prevention. She is the daughter of Douglas County Parks & Recreation board member Celeste Pierini.

I discovered the state of Nevada owes me $1.62. We were talking about the state's unclaimed property Web site on Cover-it Live, when one of our readers pointed out that my name was on the site. It's from when I lived in Dayton, and all it said was that the amount was less than $100.

So I filled out the form and printed it out before I noticed what the property cash value was.

The site is nevadatreasurer.gov, but I'd make sure there was more than a pittance. Your required to send a copy of your driver's license and Social Security card and get the form notarized if you want to send the form through the mail.
