The Douglas County Sheriff's Office took the biggest hit last night at the commission budget balancing. We'll post the numbers later today and sort out what it all means. If you used public protest to determine the biggest issue before the Douglas County commissioners on Thursday, it wouldn't be the huge Peri project in south Gardnerville or the motocross, but the acceptance of a nearly 50-year offer for dedication of Centennial Drive, Margery Lane, Snowshoe Lane and Nellie Lane in Genoa. The roads serve as access to public lands, and the neighbors were concerned that people might actually start using them for that.

A boat caught fire across the river from Genoa last night, and pumped out a lot of smoke. Firefighters had it out pretty quick once they got to the home about a mile north of Genoa Lane on Deer Haven. People were stopping along Jacks Valley Road to watch the firefighters work. The boat was not in any water that I could see from my vantage point.

The forecast calls for scattered campaigning this afternoon to increase to widespread campaigning as the big primary push for governor and U.S. Senate begins. I'll have more details as the day wears on. The Douglas County Republican Central Committee Forum is at the Fairgrounds this evening, so that at least part of the draw.

It will be a good day to be out on the stump, with temperatures in the mid-60s under sunny skies and a calm wind becoming west southwest at 5 mph. The forecast calls for it to be a little breezier on Saturday, but still nice and then the showers roll in on Sunday.
