Local artist Jeff Myers gives a class in lariat basket making and leather tooling May 24, sponsored by the Carson Valley Arts Council at the Copeland Cultural Arts Center. The six-hour class begins 9:30 a.m. Cost is $55 plus $10 for materials supplied by the instructor.
Myers uses coiled nylon lariat rope of various colors and textures and incorporated pieces of tooled leather, to build rustic baskets. Myers creates art pieces from the lariats he's accumulated over years working cattle and tying gates as a cattle rancher in Montana.
Myers' students leave class with their own completed baskets. Register at www.cvartscouncil.com or 782-8207. Limited space available.
The Carson Valley Arts Council is dedicated to serving the Carson Valley and Lake Tahoe communities with performing arts presentations, art shows, and community workshops. Information, www.cvartscouncil.com or (775) 781-0150.
