Heavy snow was responsible for several motorists becoming stuck at the top of Glenbrook Canyon on Monday afternoon, as road controls went into effect for mountain highways.
At least four non-injury accidents were reported Highways 50 and 28 between 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
The latest accident in Douglas County was at Highway 50 and Cave Rock at 4:16 p.m.
The California Highway Patrol was dealing with nearly a dozen accidents on Tahoe Highways.
Road controls are in effect for most Sierra highways including chains or snow tires required on Highway 50 west of Carson City all the way to the Nevada state line, all of Kingsbury Grade, Highway 28 to Incline Village and over the Mount Rose Highway.
All three routes over the Sierra to California required snow tires or four-wheel drive.
Rain and snow fell in Gardnerville between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. As of 4:35 p.m. roads are wet, but clear.
Rain and snow showers are likely this evening with snow falling after 8 p.m. Winds could gust up to 30 mph.
