Saturday, May 22, starting at 8 a.m., you can register at Larson Lane and Eastside Lane for that day's Trail Trial ride, sponsored by the Antelope Valley Survivors Relay for Life. You can just enjoy the ride or have your ride judged by the American Trail Trials Association. For more information, Marianne at (530) 495-2819, Robin at (530) 495-2502, or Tammy at (530) 495-2239.

Also on Saturday, May 22, will be this year's Mountain Warfare Training Challenge race at Pickel Meadow. The event takes place between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., with the race starting at 10 a.m. This is a 10 K cross-country obstacle run in high altitude. Everyone who has participated that I have spoken with says there is nothing like it. For more information, call (760) 932-1572.

Fishing season is open on the West Walker River, with fair results so far. It is such a beautiful area to spend some time, and there has been some planting of good-sized fish to try for, so get out and enjoy yourself.

Walker Senior Center

Tuesday, May 25, noon, at the Walker Senior Center will be time for the May birthday lunch. All people with May birthdays can enjoy it with a good group of friendly folks and receive a birthday present. In addition, during lunch, there will be a senior activity meeting. They will discuss and make decisions on future senior trips and activities. Please go to lunch and give them your input on future events. Call Sandi at (530) 495-2323 to reserve for your meal.

Candidates' night

I hope you took advantage of the recent candidates' night at the Walker Community Center. It gave everyone a chance to hear from the candidates for Superior Court judge, sheriff, and District 4 Supervisor. The audience posed questions, to which the candidates gave their views. Also, don't forget to vote Tuesday, June 8.

This and that

I hope Mother's Day was good for all the moms out there, despite the non-spring weather that day.
