The Carson Valley Trails Association's month-long Hike for Health Trails Challenge continues Saturday and May 22 with four guided hikes and a trail run. The Trails Challenge is a fundraiser for the Genoa Foothill Trail System project, and an opportunity to participate in healthy outdoor activities and learn more about Carson Valley area trails.
One of the two hikes Saturday is an easy two-mile hike focusing on flora and fauna on the Fay-Luther Trail. The hike starts 10 a.m. at the Fay-Luther Trailhead. The second is an easy to moderate four-mile hike on the Centennial Trail in Carson City. The trail follows an 1800s wagon trail to the new Virginia & Truckee Railroad, with Eagle Valley views and possible wild horse sightings. Meet 9 a.m. at the Burlington Coat Factory parking lot in Carson City to carpool to another location.
Events on May 22 include a Jacks Valley/Indian Hills exploration and a trail hike at Grover Hot Springs State Park. Details on meeting times and locations at www.carsonvalleytrails.org. The trail run includes 5K and 10K loop runs on the Fay-Luther Trail starting at 9 a.m. Trail run information, Nicole Johnston, (775) 901-1177 or sierraraceandrunning@gmail.com
