Scientists are now convinced that the moon has no more influence on crops than it has upon the temperature or the amount of rain or winds or any other weather element, says the government Weekly Bulletin. Mary E. Langwith, supervisor of census for the district of Nevada, announced that the population of Minden is 440 for 1930 as compared with 420 in 1920. The farms enumerated in this area totaled 25. The same report shows Gardnerville to have a population of 655. The population of this area was not shown separately in 1920 but was included with the East Fork voting precinct, that gave a population of 1,050. Reports give Carson City a population of 1,500 and Ormsby county in which it is located, 2,221. Reports give Reno a population of 18,494, an increase of 6,478 in the past ten years.

Work on the road over Kingsbury Grade continues, and it will be approximately three weeks before it will be open for normal traffic. George Dangberg, county road foreman, said this week that all work is completed on the east slope. Several pieces of road-building equipment are working on the Lake Tahoe side of the summit. When the project is completed for this season, an oiled surface will extend from the Highway 59 intersection to near the summit, said Dangberg.
