Who is Jim Wheeler? Is he, or is he not a conservative?

During his three-minute opportunity to tell us about himself at the luncheon meeting for Assembly District 39 candidates hosted by the Douglas County Republican Women, he said, "I don't have anything to tell you today, but if you attend the candidate's forum at the fairgrounds, I will lay out my plan to resolve the budget shortfall. Any questions?"

What an insult to his audience. We paid $20 to hear him say nothing, and then he expects us to pay another $25 to the Douglas County Republican Central Committee for their candidates forum to get his next installment. He's already wasting my money, and he hasn't even been elected. He is not the conservative that I can believe in.

At the Candidate's Forum at the Fairgrounds, we learned more about Jim Wheeler. Listen carefully to how Jim would solve our state's budget crisis. He proposes a two-year moratorium on small business taxes to incent growth that would add a billion dollars in tax revenues. That math doesn't work. A true conservative knows that a temporary tax cut does not incent permanent investment, and small business can't grow us out of this crisis. In order to attract substantial expansion in the private sector to our state, we must cut the size of government and eliminate the looming threat of higher taxes down the road.

Jim is not proposing any reductions in spending. Also, Jim Wheeler has not signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge to signify his opposition to any new taxes. For these reasons, I believe Jim Wheeler supports the current spending level of Nevada's government, and is, therefore, not a Tea Party conservative.

If we are going to truly solve our national and state fiscal dilemma, we need legislators who are going to address the overspending. We can't afford to elect representatives that we hope are going to change the way that government operates. We need to elect proven conservatives.
