Mason receives 65-year membership award

A group of Free and Accepted Masons from Carson Valley and Carson City met for brunch at Sharkey's Casino on May 14 to present Gavin E. "Gabe" Hoelzel with his 65-year membership award and pin from the Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Illinois.

Hoelzel has been a Master Mason and member in good standing of Empire Lodge No. 126 in Pekin, Ill., since 1945 and a member of Carson Valley Lodge No. 33 in Gardnerville since 1989.

Most Worshipful Edward M. Block, Past Grand Master of Masons in Nevada in 1976, and a 63-year Mason, presented the award. John Lund, Former Master of El Camino Research Lodge in San Jose, Calif., in 1989, and a 64-year Mason, presented the 65-year lapel pin. Carson Valley Masons meet Fridays at Sharkey's.
