TOAD, the Theater of Arts Discipline, presents "Steel Magnolias," 7 p.m. today and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday, at the Carson Valley Arts Council ArtBar, 1572 Highway 395 in Minden.

The story of "Steel Magnolias" revolves around a circle of friends in Truvy's Beauty Parlor. The title refers to those seemingly frail Southern belles who survive deprivations through wills of iron.

Robert Harling's original stage play was set exclusively in a Louisiana beauty parlor where the all-female cast of characters laughed, cried and compared menfolk. The sudden realization of mortality draws on the underlying strength and love which give the characters the quality to make them amiable company in good times and bad.

Directed by Rich Garrett, the production features young adults from Carson Valley, with Justine Cawthorne as Shelby, Emily Tuggle as M'Lynn, Brynn Garrett as Truvy, Victoria Martin as Annelle, Ashley Barrett as Ouiser, and Brittney Kinsey as Clairee.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students/seniors. Purchase tickets at (775) 219-3577 or toadinc@gmail.com Tickets may be purchased at the door, although seating is limited.
