A 52-year-old Dayton man was released Friday from Douglas County Jail after a charge of trafficking in methamphetamine was dismissed because of the lack of a witness.
Sean Edward Coots, wanted in Lyon County for failing to register as a sex offender, was set for a preliminary hearing Friday before East Fork Justice Jim EnEarl.
Coots was accused of selling a quarter-ounce of methamphetamine in north Douglas County in an undercover operation.
Prosecutor Laurie Trotter said Friday the prosecution was not prepared to proceed with the hearing because one witness had not shown up.
She asked that the trafficking charge be dismissed without prejudice which means the prosecution has the right to file the charge again.
Coots had been held in jail on $50,000 cash bail since his arrest earlier this month.
He told EnEarl is to appear May 27 in Lyon County. He was charged there with failing to register as a sex offender.
According to the Nevada Sex Offender Registry, Coots was convicted in Washoe County in 1981 of battery with intent to commit sexual assault.
He is listed as a tier 3 offender, indicating a high risk to offend.
