A straw poll conducted at Tuesday's forum showed different results from the one taken by Republicans a couple of weeks earlier. The audience was more balanced between Democrats and Republicans, with JoEtta Brown coming in third in the Assembly race, which was tied between Jim Wheeler and Kelly Kite. In that world, Brian Sandoval defeats the governor, and Sharron Angle tops Reid and Lowden.
Rep. Dean Heller and Clerk-Treasurer Ted Thran were the only incumbents to survive, with both Lee Bonner and Lawrence Howell winning the county commission. It will be interesting to compare the results to reality. The Business Council of Douglas County, the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce and The R-C sponsored the forum.
Early voting start on Saturday at the old courthouse on 8th Street. Since I like to vote often, I like to get in on the first day. The polls are open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and then through the day all next week. Early voting will also be available in Stateline and Topaz Ranch Estates 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
This will be a good weekend to spend indoors, unless of course the forecast turns out to be fiction. Expect a windy day today with gusts of up to 35 mph. It's forecast to be sunny with a high temperature of 60 degrees. That will feel nice compared to Saturday's high temperature of 48. There's a chance we'll see showers over the weekend of either rain or snow, but mostly it's going to be breezy and cold.
