Early voting in the primary election kicks off at 10 a.m. today in Minden, Stateline and Topaz Ranch Estates.
Douglas County Republicans have a substantial list of candidates on their ballot in this election, including choosing who will face Sen. Harry Reid in the November general election, deciding whether Gov. Jim Gibbons will defend his seat against Reid's son, Rory, Assemblyman James Settelmeyer's likely successor and picking the county's next clerk-treasurer.
Democrats will get to choose who will challenge Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki for his seat, and who will run against Rep. Dean Heller, R-Carson, in November.
Early voting will take place 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the old Douglas County courthouse, 1616 Eighth St., in Minden.
Satellite locations at the Tahoe Transportation Center and the Topaz Ranch Estates Fire Station will be open 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today.
Residents of any precinct may cast a ballot at any early voting location. On Election Day, June 8, residents must vote at their precinct.
Republicans dominate registration in Douglas County with 16,596 active and inactive voters. There are 9,400 active and inactive Democrats and 4,766 active and inactive nonpartisan voters. The largest minor party in the county is the Independent Americans with 1,516 active and inactive voters. Inactive voters are those who the clerk has received some indication they've moved, but are still eligible to cast a ballot if they can show they are still in Douglas County.
