EDITOR:
What in the world has happened to our DMV? I have registered numerous cars in the past 10 years and it has always been a pleasurable experience. I do normally do it at the Douglas County Clerk's Office, however, and not at a DMV office. It was always a pleasure doing business in the old Minden DMV office, too.
I recently registered two of my vehicles, bringing with me proof of insurance on each one. A week or so later I received a new registration and tabs for each of my two vehicles and a registration and tab for someone else's Toyota. This was easily and very politely rectified as the very nice person at the county clerks office called up to Stateline. The person in Stateline told the clerk that she called my wife and was told to include the Toyota registration and tabs with my two vehicles. Now, that was a blatant lie and what would have even made her call my wife in the first place?
The Toyota was registered to another person at another address. She would have had no reason to call my wife, which she didn't.
Also, on one of my vehicles, on which I presented proof of insurance, a DMV hate letter (unconfirmed insurance response) was sent with the package which said that I had to confirm my insurance to (in big letters) "Avoid the $250 fee." I have registered these two vehicles for over nine years and have never had a problem. There hasn't been one single moment that any of my vehicles weren't insured! As I say, I did present proof of insurance but still received the hate letter.
For this fine service from the DMV I now have to pay a government services tax which equaled more than the actual registration fees. As seems to be the usual with the government, we pay more taxes and get less service.
