May 28, 1915

The Senior Class of the Douglas County High School gave their class entertainment at the school house which was greatly enjoyed by those in attendance. Jennie Jacobsen opened the program with a vocal solo. Irma Settelmeyer was the class historian and Ruth Atcheson read the class prophesy. This was followed by an instrumental selection by Miss Viola Krueger. The class oration was delivered by Arendt Jensen while Fred Beck gave the Juniors some good advice. Sadiebell Brown bid farewell to the Senior class. The Commencement exercises will be held at Valhalla hall this evening. Prof. Thompson of the University of Nevada giving the commencement address.

May 30, 1930

By a vote of 9 to 1, the Metropolitan district of Los Angeles has confirmed the bond issue contemplating the acquisition of vast areas in Mono county in order to extend the water rights of the metropolis. The election for a bond issue in the amount of $38,000,000, which includes an item of $7,000,000 for the purchase of water-bearing lands and water rights in Mono Basin, a large percentage of which are owned by the Southern Sierras Power company and associated companies.

May 26, 1960

With the rapid approach of the time set for the annual celebration of Carson Valley Days, members of the 20-30 Club, the sponsoring organization, are stepping up their pace in planning and preparing for the colorful, two-day event. The 20-30 club plans to have the drawing prizes on display at Carson Valley Mercantile. Prizes this year include a portable dish washer, power lawn mower, a western saddle engraved especially for Carson Valley Days of 1960, a Browning automatic 12 gauge shotgun, and a portable television set. There will be a dance contest with prizes awarded in the waltz and jitterbug.


25 years ago

May 30, 1985

The 75th annual Carson Valley Days celebration opens next Thursday for a four-day run. Registration for the Art Show at the CVIC Hall and the wild and crazy Soroptimist Kangaroo Court at the French Hotel highlight the following day. At noon Saturday, the all-new and improved 20-30 barbecue will begin. Meat for the barbecue will be sliced from 20-pound roasts. The 20-30 Club invites everyone to try our new style barbecue, and let us know how you like it.

The Block D Letterman's Club gathered to make a little Douglas High School history. The hillside "D" marking the home of the Douglas Tigers was being moved to a hill just west of Kingsbury Grade. For as long as most can remember, the "D" has adorned the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada. The new location is more accessible and they will be using white rock that won't have to be painted every year.
