Rocky rule, great neighbors

EDITOR:

First of all, I am writing to highlight an absurd rule established by the Gardnerville Ranchos General Improvement District as promulgated by their "lead person" to me on Oct. 22. He stated that I had 24 hours to remove a load of rock from the street (in my case, 13 cubic yards) that I just had delivered or be subject to a myriad of actions which would be initiated by district.

For example, I could be ticketed by the sheriff's office or have district come out with a loader and remove the rock from the area or dump it in my driveway. What a discouraging rule, really limiting the potential of self-help projects by district residents. My suggestion would be to give residents up to five days to remove that which was off-loaded in the street. Certainly reasonable limitations could be established, but "24 hours or else" doesn't seem reasonable, or rational.

Secondly, I want to make note of the wonderful action of the amazing neighbors that I have. Unbeknownst to them about my "visit" from the district rep, they pitched in and helped move the rock to my yard. As I was starting to remove the rock these guys, my neighbors, showed up with shovels, some with wheel barrows, and helped shorten a two-day job to under four hours.

I publicly want to thank Mike Huff, Roger Brekas, Bob Mann, Jim Pillsbury, and Joe Maroney for their help - what a neighborhood. Thanks a million, gentlemen.
