Bonner topples Brady in close race

In two tight votes, County Commissioner Nancy McDermid hung onto her seat as challenger Lee Bonner toppled County Commissioner Dave Brady.

McDermid defeated opponent Lawrence Howell 9,469-9,023 votes, not the closest race of the night.

Bonner defeated Brady 9,403 to 9,137 votes with 76 percent of the county's voters casting a ballot.

In one of the closest votes of the night, School Board Trustee Sharla Hales was returned to her seat by 43 votes. Hales defeated opponent Scott Forvilly, who didn't campaign, 8,479-8,436.

Also winning re-election was School Board Trustee Thomas Moore, who defeated opponent Wayne Archer 8,086 to 7,732 votes.

Douglas County Question 1 also had a very tight race with the yes vote winning 10,468 to 10,190.

With a sudden surge of late voters, polling places in the Gardnerville Ranchos, Johnson Lane and Sunridge got slammed.

Douglas County Clerk-Treasurer Ted Thran said 1,000 people arrived at the polls in Indian Hills just before the polls closed at 7 p.m.

He said as many as 1,800 voters voted at the polls in the Gardnerville Ranchos. Final preliminary results were released after 10 p.m.

Genoa resident James Settelmeyer brought representation in the Nevada Senate back to Douglas County with 66 percent of the vote. Dayton resident Kevin Ranft won 29 percent of the vote.

Former Douglas County Commissioner Kelly Kite took over Settelmeyer's seat with 57 percent of the vote.
