The National Weather Service is warning motorists to expect icy conditions on the roads this morning after a wet storm left roads wet and then temperatures dropped below freezing in places.
According to a special statement issued this morning, icy patches have developed in those places where temperatures have dropped below freezing. Forecasters say motorists should expect slick driving conditions until sunrise.
Bridges, overpasses and side streets will be particularly susceptible.
Road controls are in effect over Kingsbury and Spooner summits and on Highway 50 around Lake Tahoe.
Chains or snow tires are being required over Carson Pass and Echo Summit, and on Highway 395 from the Sonora Pass Junction to Bridgeport.
Forecasters say the snow has stopped, and the roads should clear by mid-morning.
