More than 30 U.S. Marines gathered in East Fork Justice Court on Wednesday to observe the 235th birthday of their service.
Following a tradition established by former East Fork Justice of the Peace Jim EnEarl, interim Justice Steve McMorris had the Marines introduce themselves.
The ceremony included singing the "Marine Corps Hymn," reading the commandant's message and the serving of cake by the youngest Marine present to the oldest Marines.
McMorris, himself a Marine, said the service has always had a sense of its history.
He described visiting the Belleau Wood, where the Marines distinguished themselves in the World War I battle.
Five of the men attending fought in Korea, which was the topic of Marine Commandant Gen. James F. Amos message.
McMorris said he plans to hold the event next year, and has spoken to incoming Justice of the Peace Tom Perkins.
