For the second year in a row, the lady Tigers soccer team has won the state championship.
While that's great, here's what's better. Before last year, there's never been a statewide tournament in girl's soccer.
Hopes were high for the girls this year coming off last year's state victory, but they got off to a rocky start that saw them losing to Carson and Galena.
A lesser team might have been intimidated in the rematches that occurred in the finals, but not the Lady Tigers, who beat Galena once in the semi-finals and then took down rival Carson to face Galena yet again in the championship.
The Tigers not only won the first statewide tournament, but the second as well.
And they had company.
For the first time in a dozen years the Tigers volleyball squad won the state championship.
In order to win the tournament, they defeated Green Valley High School, a Southern Nevada mega-school with twice the enrollment of Douglas High School.
Tiger senior Jackie Harper took a page from the soccer team's book when she saved a play by kicking the ball with the toe of her shoe saving the point.
It's the sort of play that has demoralized the Tigers' opponents all season.
We congratulate all of our woman warriors on their state championships.
Go Tigers.
