The Carson Valley Sinfonia presents its free Fall Concert 2010, 4 p.m. Sunday, at the CVIC Hall in Minden.
The program features first- and second-year string students playing selections from "The Sound of Music" and "The Wizard of Oz," and includes a movement from Bach's "Brandenburg Concerto No. 2," and a "Fiddler on the Roof" medley.
Also on the program are the first performances of the new scores "Korobooshka," a Russian folk song arranged by violist Danny Yale; and Faure's "Sicilienne" and the minuet from Haydn's "Drum Roll Symphony," both transcribed for string orchestra by conductor John O'Neill. The arrangements by Yale and O'Neill have all been accepted by Ludwig/Masters Publications and will be recorded in January by the Cleveland Strings.
The Carson Valley Sinfonia is sponsored by Friends of the Carson Valley Youth Orchestra and the Carson Valley Violin School. Members range in age from 11 to 80-plus, giving younger members an opportunity to benefit from the experience of the professional musicians and teachers. Membership is open to qualified musicians without charge.
The Carson Valley Violin School is in its 19th year and offers lessons on orchestral string instruments to students of all ages. Information, (775) 267-3495.
