Embers from a chimney set the wood shake roof of a duplex on fire in the 1300 block of Kimmerling Road on Thursday night.

East Fork Deputy Chief David Fogerson said the fire was reported at 8:09 p.m.

People were living in just one side of the duplex when the fire broke out. Neighbors spotted the fire and called for help.

Fogerson said firefighters from the Gardnerville Ranchos, Minden and Gardnerville arrived on scene and had the fire out within five minutes.

Firefighters patched the roof last night, and the property management company is working to fix the patch this morning.

Fogerson asked that residents remember to check their smoke detector batteries.

Safety officials encourage people to change the smoke detector batteries around the time change.
