Six pounds of marijuana were recovered from a vehicle stopped Thursday on Highway 88 south of Mackland by a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper.
The occupants of the vehicle - a man and a woman - abandoned the vehicle and disappeared into the Mackland subdivision while deputies were waiting for a warrant to search the vehicle.
The trooper smelled an odor of marijuana after stopping the vehicle, but the driver denied permission to search the interior.
The trooper requested assistance from a Douglas County Sheriff's Office drug detection dog. Investigators from the Douglas County Street Enforcement Team responded with Mack, a K9 officer.
Mack conducted a sniff of the exterior of the vehicle and positively alerted, indicating the presence of drugs.
Once a search warrant was obtained, officers found six pounds of marijuana and associated paraphernalia related to narcotic sales.
Arrest warrants were sought for the occupants of the vehicle, identified as the 22-year-old driver, Yana Kitzen, of Carmichael, Calif., and 18 year-old passenger Enrique Monroy, of Roseville, Calif.
