Storm warning starts at 10 p.m.

With nearly five hours before a winter storm warning goes into effect for Carson Valley all roads are clear in Douglas County.

A high wind warning for the Valley expired at 4 p.m. today as a strong low pressure system approached the Sierra. A 41 mph gust was recorded in the Gardnerville Ranchos. Fish Springs reported a 47 mph gust right after noon.

While leaves danced in the streets, big fluffy clouds passed over the Valley on Friday.

A strong and cold low pressure system is headed for Carson Valley tonight bringing cold temperatures and snow levels to the Valley floor according to the National Weather Service.

A winter storm warning goes into effect at 10 p.m. and continues through 10 a.m. Sunday.

Forecasters are predicting local blizzard conditions in the Sierra, over the passes and exposed locations Saturday afternoon and over night.

Expect light to moderate snow tonight through Saturday morning.

There should be a lull in the weather before another blast of heavier snow on Saturday night.

The National Weather Service is calling for accumulations of 6-12 inches of snow on the Valley floors and 12-18 inches above 5,000 feet.

Higher amounts may fall south of Highway 50.
