Three inches of snow in Carson Valley

Three inches of snow fell in parts of Carson Valley overnight, turning the landscape white and mountain roads slick.

Chain controls are the rule rather than the exception on routes in and around the Tahoe Basin and over the Pine Nut Mountains.

The Nevada Highway Patrol helped a motorist on Kingsbury Grade earlier this morning, one of a half dozen minor accidents and incidents around Western Nevada roads so far.

There're few clouds in sight this morning during the forecast lull between the two waves of the winter storm that's expected to pick back up again around 4 p.m. and slam the region at 10 p.m.

Snow telemetry at Ebbetts Pass is reported 5 inches of new snow before midnight. Heavenly Valley is reporting a foot of new snow and has 20 acres open.
