Road controls have dropped to the Valley floors with the snow level this morning.
Chains or snowtires are being required on every major Douglas County highway, including Highway 395, Highway 50, Highway 88, Highway 207 and Highway 208.
Expect to need chains or four-wheel drive to get around Lake Tahoe, or over the passes this morning. Highway 88 over Carson Pass and Highway 50 over Echo Summit are both under chain restrictions.
The roads are reasonably quiet, with a single accident with injury in the northbound lanes of the 395 bypass in Carson at Arrowhead, which occurred 5:37 a.m. and a motorist assist in the southbound lanes of Highway 395 at Washoe Hill.
An additional 5 inches of snow fell in Genoa overnight making the total for the weekend so far 8 inches. Not quite the foot predicted, but a healthy dose for the Valley from a pre-Thanksgiving storm.
The winter storm warning for the lower elevations expires at 10 a.m. today. Lake Tahoe will continue until 4 p.m.
