Angel Trees help children in need

Sponsor a child in need for Christmas by picking an angel from one of the Project Santa Claus Angel Trees in Carson Valley businesses.

The angels include information about a child and one gift request. Wrapped gifts should be returned to Angel Tree locations by Dec. 15 to be distributed to families a few days before Christmas.

Angel Trees may be found in Minden at Bently Biofuels Outpost, Designing with Nature, Rite of Passage, Taylor-York Salon, Tumblewind, World Gym.

Gardnerville Angel Tree locations are at Carson Valley Medical Center, Raley's, R & T Cleaners, Scolari's Food & Drug, Sharkey's Casino, Topaz Lodge & Casino, and Wells Fargo Bank.

The Carson Valley Kiwanis Club seeks good quality used bicycles to be cleaned and repaired by the young people at China Spring and Aurora Pines and donated to Project Santa.

Drop off bikes at the Gardnerville Ranchos General Improvement District office at 931 Mitch Drive in the Ranchos or at the Town of Gardnerville maintenance yard at 1369 Highway 395, Gardnerville. Information, Gary Dove, 265-9443.

This is the 21st year the Project Santa Claus volunteer organization has helped Douglas County. Last year 786 children from 345 families were sponsored through donations from the community.

Project Santa Claus benefits children of Carson Valley Community Food Closet families approved by Douglas County and Washoe Tribal Social Service Departments, children of Family Support Council families who are approved by their case workers, children in the Court Appointed Special Advocate program of Douglas County approved by their caseworkers and with assistance from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, children housed at Austin's House and the FSC shelter. Project Santa Claus is not affiliated with Toys for Tots.
