The R-C Morning Report: Stormwatch II

Douglas County has closed Zephyr Cove Elementary and Whittell High School at Lake Tahoe for a snow day. All Valley schools are open. Go to www.dcsd.k12.nv.us/ for more information. Heavenly Ski Resort reported 5 inches of new snow this morning. That makes 53 inches for the last week.

It's snowing outside, but so far it's too warm to really accumulate down in the Valley. There are chain controls on Kingsbury and Spooner, and on 395 north through Washoe Valley and on to the state line. Chains or snow tires are being required across all three passes, but at least they're open.

Expect snow showers and blowing snow before 4 p.m. today and then it will clear and get all "Day After Tomorrow" on us, with the daytime temperature dropping from 38 to 19 degrees by the evening commute. The low tonight will hit 6 degrees. Visibility looks like it will be the bid issue on the commute this morning, as the wind blows the snow around.
