A 42-year-old former Dairy Queen manager was charged with felony embezzlement in connection with the disappearance of $27,827.85 from the Minden restaurant.

Carl Franklin Wilson of Gardnerville appeared Wednesday before East Fork Justice Tom Perkins. Wilson was arrested Tuesday and jailed on $20,000 cash bail.

According to court reports, the alleged embezzlement took place over three months from August through October.

Perkins appointed lawyer Tod Young to represent Wilson after the suspect said he had $260 to his name and minor children to support.

He said he was unemployed and living with his adult daughter.

Court reports indicated the missing money has not been recovered. Initially, Wilson denied the allegation, but reportedly told investigators he used the money to pay bills.

Perkins released Wilson on his own recognizance under the supervision of the Department of Alternative Sentencing.

Prosecutor Karen Dustman said Wilson's record did not indicate prior criminal activity.

Wilson must wear an ankle monitor. He told the judge he could afford the $15-a-day monitoring fee.

Wilson is to return to court on Dec. 1.

Perkins ordered him to stay out of Dairy Queen and not to discuss the allegations with employees.
