Elders need our help

Carson Valley Residential Care Center, an assisted living community in Gardnerville, is home to a few of Douglas County's less fortunate senior citizens. Of the 75 residents in this community, 15 are considered low-income residents. Their only income may be Social Security, a small retirement, or none. Healthcare is provided by Medicare or Medicaid, or none. In several cases their income does not cover the basic expenses to live in this community. There is no other community within a 75 mile radius that will care for these seniors.

To make life a little more bearable for the less fortunate residents, the center has a program called Adopt An Elder Program to which tax deductible donations may be made. These donations add some comfort to the lives of these seniors. The funds are used to pay for medical prescriptions, dental care and dentures, eyeglasses, hearing aid batteries and other similar expenses that are not covered by Medicare or Medicaid. In addition, other amenities, such as simple lunch outings, admission fees to community events, shopping for personal hygiene items, clothing or even snacks to have available in their own rooms would be considered a luxury.

To help these seniors, a tax deductible donations to AAEP can be made payable to Young At Heart (YAH), a 501(c) 3 organization. Donations can be mailed to Carson Valley Residential Care Center at 1189 Kimmerling Road, Gardnerville, NV 89460 or Young At Heart, P.O. Box 1042 Gardnerville, NV 89410. The Employer Identification Number for tax purposes can be provided upon request.
