Chain controls in Douglas County are limited to Highway 50 between Carson City and South Lake Tahoe and Kingsbury Grade between Foothill and Stateline. Both Highway 88 and Highway 50 through the Sierra require chains or snow tires. The thermometer at Meneley Elementary School is reading 6 degrees this morning, I've got 12 degrees in Genoa. There's not a breath of wind.

According to the Nevada Department of Taxation, Douglas County merchants sold 2.2 percent less in taxable merchandise in September 2010 than they did in the same month in 2009. Douglas merchants reported $46.97 million in taxable sales, down from $48.03 million.

Today's forecast is for sunny and cold with the high not quite cracking freezing at 30 degrees. We've got a couple of more single-digit mornings tonight and on Thanksgiving, then a chance of rain or snow on Saturday.
