Freezing temperatures could leave slick roads

Snow in Carson Valley is expected to taper off by 9 p.m., with the last bit falling before 3 a.m. Sunday. Light snow and rain fell on and off through the day, and didn't start to accumulate on area roadways until after dark.

While there was no serious accumulation of snow, the National Weather Service is warning motorists to expect icy roads thanks to freezing overnight temperatures.

Motorists traveling in Western Nevada and the Sierra should slow down and allow extra time to reach their destinations, forecasters warn.

Medics and emergency personnel responded to an injury accident on Highway 28, two miles into Carson City at 4:14 p.m., according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Highway 395 through Mono County was blocked for nearly three hours on Saturday afternoon after a semi-tractor-trailer became disabled just south of Vista Point near Mono Lake at 3:44 p.m. At 6:24 p.m. traffic was taking turns using the northbound lanes.

The California Highway Patrol reported 1-2 inches on Conway Summit with ice on the roadway and near white-out conditions at 1 p.m.

Chains or snow tires are being required on most mountain roads, including Highway 50 from Carson City to South Lake Tahoe, Highway 28 from Spooner Junction to Incline Village and Highway 395 south of Walker. The Nevada Highway Patrol is turning all trucks around on Interstate 80 at the California state line. They are suggesting an alternative route.
