A 21-year-old Gardnerville man faces life in prison with the possibility of parole in 10 years after admitting Monday he had sex with a 13-year-old girl.
Juan Daniel Martir pleaded guilty to lewdness with a child under 14, a class A felony.
In exchange for his guilty plea, the district attorney is dismissing three felony counts of sexual assault against a child under 14.
District Judge Michael Gibbons set sentencing for Jan. 3.
Both sides are free to argue at sentencing, but life in prison is mandatory for Martir with the possibility of parole after 10 years.
He was ineligible for probation.
Martir was arrested Oct. 20 and accused of exposing himself to the girl at her Ruhenstroth home.
The incident was discovered by an adult caretaker with whom the girl lives. The caretaker found Martir, identified as a family friend, exposing himself to the girl in the residence.
Further investigation turned up evidence that Martir had engaged in sexual activity with the girl. Martir admitted to investigators and in court Monday that he had sex with her and knew she was 13.
The victim said Martir forced himself on her.
He is being held in Douglas County Jail on $202,500.
He also faces a $10,000 fine and restitution.
Martir will be on lifetime supervision and must register as a sex offender.
