Gardnerville will be holding the first of two public hearings on a recommended increase in trash rates today. The town board meets 4:30 p.m. today at the town offices on Highway 395.

A 39-year-old Stateline man who allegedly broke into a vehicle while his wife was undergoing a procedure at a medical center across the street is scheduled to plead guilty to a count of attempted burglary this morning in Douglas County District Court. In exchange for Eric Thompson's guilty plea, a charge of burglary will be dropped, according to defense attorney Derrick Lopez.

The California Highway Patrol is reporting chain controls on Highway 395 north of Bishop, but otherwise the road controls Web site is clear. Between a quarter and a half inch of rain is expected today as the high temperature creeps up to 57 degrees under cloudy skies.

Ebbetts Pass snow telemetry reported 1.3 inches of precipitation at the top of the Carson River basin. Bridgeport got 1.28 inches. Markleeville reported .81 inches of moisture. The top of Kingsbury reported .5 inches of precipitation as of 6 p.m. Monday.
