Female heads of household (single or married, with the primary responsibility of supporting yourself and your dependents), those attending undergraduate degree programs or vocational/skills training programs and have financial need, are eligible to apply for a Women's Opportunity Award offered by Soroptimist International of Smith Valley.

Women in Lyon County and Topaz Ranch Estates who meet these criteria may obtain applications for the Women's Opportunity Award by contacting Danielle Dows at 266-4763 or yandapanda@gmail.com

Applications must be returned to Soroptimist International of Smith Valley by Dec. 15.

The Smith Valley club will provide a $1,000 cash grant to the award winner, who advances to the Soroptimist Sierra Nevada Region level, where five $3,000-$5,000 winners will be selected. The program culminates with three $10,000 finalist awards at the federation level.

Since 1972, the Soroptimist Women's Opportunity Awards program has aided women who must enter or return to the workforce or upgrade their employment status.

Each year, almost $1 million in Women's Opportunity Awards are granted to women, enabling them to offset costs associated with efforts to attain higher education or additional skills and training such as books, child care, and car expenses.
