Football: Coleville moves to 6-0

The Coleville Wolves beat the visiting Owyhee Braves 62-16 Saturday afternoon.

Owyhee fell into a second place tie with Carlin, Mineral County, and Eureka at 5-2 while Coleville remained in first at 6-0.

John "Buh" Hamilton scored six rushing touchdowns to lead Coleville's offense. On a day in which Coleville's passing game struggled, Hamilton rushed for a career high 321 yards on 27 carries.

Joshiah Huhta added 41 yards rushing including an 8-yard touchdown run and Emmi Sandoval rushed for 35 yards.

Emmi Sandoval, who missed the first half with an SAT exam, fired up his teammates when he returned the opening kick of the second half 75 yards for a touchdown. Sandoval added a second special team score when he took a fourth quarter punt 44 yards for a touchdown.

The real story of the game may have been Coleville's dominating defensive performance that held a very physical Owyhee team to only 92 yards in total offense.

Coleville's defense only allowed 17 yards on the ground and sacked the Owyhee quarterback nine times. Mat Randall led the sack attack with four sacks. Randall also had four solos and six assists from his defensive end position.

Emmi Sandoval (five solos, two assists, one sack, one fumble recovery), Tyler Summers (two solos, 10 assists, one sack), Austin Byers (two solos and seven assists), and Josiah Huhta (six assists and one sack) all had outstanding defensive games.

"The defense really played well today," Coleville coach Will Sandy said. "Owyhee had a huge size advantage especially at the line positions. Buh (Hamilton) really rose to the occasion and helped carry the offense. We were out of sink with our passing game. We had to move players around due to some key players missing the first half with the SAT exam and never really got untracked. Although Buh gets most of the glory, it should be mentioned that the offensive line led by Tyler Summers and David Sandoval did an outstanding job opening holes."

Coleville travels to Mineral County (Hawthorne) on Friday for a 7 p.m. contest.
